Years ago we often used big, bold typography to say “HEY! LOOK AT ME!” but as everyone started using it, it became less effective and companies started to get more creative. However roll on now to 2017 and I’ve started to see more and more websites go back to the classic BIG, BOLD, Beautiful fonts! Now they’re not for everyone, but I think if used on the right website they can be really powerful. Your message has to be short and clear, perhaps just a title or name. A good example of it can be see here at Dujour:
As you can see in the picture above there is no question what this website/company is called. They are Dujour. As clear as day (except here in England where its either raining or moody 95% of the year). Its really powerful, keeps with their brand and works wonderfully well with the striking image of the well dress lady in the picture. This works especially well when the rest of the website is kept minimalist, as if its too busy it starts to lose its powerful impact.
