Milton Keynes, like most places, has its pros and cons, but I can’t help but feel that the true quality of Milton Keynes is overlooked. If you say “Milton Keynes” anywhere outside of Milton Keynes, you’ll hear “that’s the place with the roundabouts and cows, isn’t it?” to which the answer is yes, but narrowing what Milton Keynes can bring to the table down to just that kind of misses the point.
Milton Keynes was created to be a progressive, modern town (insert city/town semantics). It’s not perfect, but when it comes to the web design world, there is plenty on offer.
When we started YellowRoad Designs (otherwise known as YellowRoad Web Design) we all lived in Milton Keynes, so MK seemed like the best place to launch our new business venture. The community for this kind of stuff is excellent here.
Starting off, we knew we wanted to make a big impact with a small web design business. We started generating some interest via word of mouth in Milton Keynes and Northampton, just getting our name out there via people we know and ensuring that we had the skills to deliver quality web design work, because that’s what builds a brand. That built our portfolio up and enabled us to showcase some of our web design, infographic, website security and website redesign skills.
Trust
One of the biggest issues we found was that people don’t trust easily, particularly when starting out with a small business. They just don’t have the cash to risk throwing around, so it needs to be right first time. This is why hiring someone that can be trusted is essential for your web design needs. It can be a show stopper if they pay a bunch of money for a site and then it doesn’t live up to their expectations. As we live across Milton Keynes and Northampton, we made a big effort to meet with our clients face to face to chat about their needs. We had some great conversations about web design, infographic and logo design, SEO and, arguably most importantly, the business that they were building.
Flexible and Accessible
Being flexible with how our clients communicated with us was a big help. Making sure the door was always open to our customers built trust. We had some clients that operated by email only, but others that wanted a WhatsApp group so that they could chat quickly. Hiring a web designer can be stressful, so we wanted to make sure it was as easy as possible with us.
Delivery
Web design is all about the delivery. The rest means nothing if the end product doesn’t deliver. That’s to say, it needs to achieve the primary objective of the client, which is often sales but not always. A website has to have character. It needs to be a smooth experience. With the amount of websites people visit these days, they notice problems really fast!
The same principles apply with SEO, infographic and content creation too.
Today
Today we follow the same principles that created YellowRoad Designs, but with some positive additions that we picked up along the way. Our processes are slicker, knowledge greater and team bigger. Our goal is to exponentially grow the team and our service offering so that we can do more to deliver high quality web design services across the UK.
If you have an idea for a website and are in the Milton Keynes or Northampton area, get in touch! We’d love to hear it over a coffee. Alternatively if you’re not based in Milton Keynes but have a web design project in mind, give us a call.
Feel free to follow YellowRoad Designs on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to receive updates on our latest posts.
